Summer is in full swing, and the best way to make the most of your time in the sun is to get outside. This month, we’ve put together a list of healthy seasonal activities that are either completely free or low-cost. Read on to pick an activity for this weekend!

  2. Get involved in summer reading programs.
  3. Cook with family or friends or host a potluck.
  4. Have a picnic at a local park or in your yard.
  5. Camp out in your backyard.
  6. Visit galleries and museums – bonus if you bike, walk, jog or rollerblade there!
  7. Explore historical sites or a nearby town.
  8. Go geocaching or create your own scavenger hunt.
  9. Make homemade, healthy “nice” cream or fruit popsicles to enjoy on a hot afternoon.
  10. Visit national parks or a local nature center.
  11. Attend outdoor concerts, movies, festivals or “Music In the Park” events.
  12. Run through the sprinkler or make a backyard water park.
  13. Go for a bicycle ride or go rollerblading.
  14. Go for a swim or visit a local splash zone.
  15. Check out the moon in its cycle or stargaze.
  16. Attend a “Meet the Author Night” at a local bookstore.
  17. Visit your local library for an event.
  18. Check your local newspaper or community calendar for upcoming events.
  19. Look for volunteering opportunities.

  21. Walk with family or friends.

  23. Have a cookout.
